Hanz de Fuko was born in the heart of San Francisco’s Mission District in February of 2009. Founders David Alfonso and Christopher Zent were creative renegades eager to challenge the status quo. The childhood friends were determined to foster creativity and individuality in an industry fast becoming all too corporate.
The concept was to create amazing, “one of a kind” hair care products that would also serve as a wonderful testament to the artist in all of us. It was about having fun, living with purpose and staying true to oneself – to always view things outside of their common usefulness and see if they can be re-worked, re-invented, or re-defined.
The brand Hanz de Fuko is a symbolic expression of this simple ideology.
"Original formulations for the one of a kind individual"
From your favorite denim, to that lucky v-neck amazingly survived through countless washes and 3 ex-girlfriends (or boyfriends). Or that magnificent, decade old, “pheromone” generating jacket you’ve been known to wear at the local dive,“and was there ever a use for that weird button next to the collar?”
We call these tangible components of your “swagger” - Your Couture.
To you, such sentimental items are an important part of your persona. But they’re more than just building blocks of your style DNA; they’re part of your social compass. Which is why you’ll never question how you end up at the hottest “pop-up” joint in New York at 3am, or why you were able to score a hefty discount from the cute cashier at YSL.
Like you, we believe in your own brand of individual style.
Your Couture, is our Couture. Let us compliment you along your journey.
A Bay Area native and graduate of San Francisco State University, David Alfonso began his 12-year career working among Silicon Valley’s elite, holding key positions in both sales and marketing for some of the country’s most exciting start-ups. The experience and wealth of knowledge he accumulated during this period placed him in a unique position to finally rethink his career.
A natural entrepreneur at heart, always hungry for creative freedom and purpose, David decided to take the big leap by partnering with fellow impresario and risk taker, Christopher Zent, to launch Hanz de Fuko, a fresh new take on men's hair care.
In addition to his duties as CEO, David is responsible for the company's overall marketing strategy and execution, new product development, creative design, social media, and packaging.
For Christopher Zent, growing up in Silicon Valley during the nineties meant the ever-present lure of entrepreneurship. Whenever a business opportunity arose to get his feet wet, Christopher always jumped in head first.
While earning his stripes with several consumer-driven start-ups, he became fascinated with the driving forces behind their success; the power of an idea, creative freedom, and the unwavering desire to exceed customer expectations. In 2009, Christopher teamed up with his childhood friend, David Alfonso, and Hanz de Fuko was born.
In addition to his COO duties, Christopher also serves as Hanz de Fuko’s online architect and VP of sales. His goal is to reimagine the way people think about and purchase their hair products, foregoing traditional and outdated methods in favor of more stylish, innovative, and consumer-centric solutions.
